Nick A. doesn’t have a degree in Finance and has been growing his career at Fisher Investments since 2017 with the support of the firm’s training programs and management’s investment in his growth. With his will-do attitude and love of learning, Fisher Investments has helped guide him through four different roles in eight years, including a transition into leadership.

How did you join Fisher Investments?

A recruiter approached me about entry-level opportunities at Fisher Investments. Without a background in Finance, I was unsure about proceeding. Through discussions with my recruiter, I found that Fisher has a robust training program and if you have a will-do attitude and desire to learn, the opportunities are abundant. I further discovered I could use my Public Relations degree in ways I had not previously considered. It was this learned ability to communicate effectively to varying audiences that directly contributed to my success in the roles I’ve held throughout my Fisher career.

Was there anything that surprised you about Fisher once you started working here?

There have been many pleasant Fisher surprises. One of the most impactful has been the extent to which Fisher has provided for my family. Prior to Fisher, we could not afford to be on the same company-provided insurance plan. However, with Fisher covering health, dental, and vision premiums 100% for me, my wife and son, we could finally be on one plan together. It’s an immense peace of mind to know that my family is protected. Additionally, Fisher provides a 50% match on my 401(k) for every dollar I invest up to the IRS maximum, which could very well lead to an earlier and financially healthier retirement for me.

In terms of my professional growth, my previous employers did not spend such an extensive time training me, helping me grow, or encouraging me to reach the next step in my career. In my eight-plus years with Fisher, the firm has made me feel like I was not just another number, despite the immense hiring growth and expansion over that period. From teaching me about the industry, hosting Bridge Programs to help me enter my first professional role, to guiding me through the world of people management, the firm has supported me every step of the way.

How has Fisher supported your growth and development?

I started as a Client Service Associate and in a little under two years, I was awarded the opportunity become an Annuity Counselor with the Annuity Conversion Groupa role that I loved. Fisher provided me with all of the resources I needed to pass the Series 65, and the extensive training helped me be successful evaluating annuities for our clients. I then dipped my toes into people management, returning to the Client Service Associate department as a Team Leader. When the opportunity arose to grow my passion for leadership in the Annuity Conversion group, I jumped at the chance to become the Annuity Conversion Operations Team Leader, a role I’ve held since August 2023.

Fisher is a great place to work because of their endless endeavor to create lifelong careers. I have experienced continual support in bettering myself through learning. Through online self-taught courses, instructor-led classes, and Bridge Programs, the firm provides as many opportunities for growth as you are willing to embark upon. Every manager I’ve had in my career here has pushed me to seek new personal and professional heights, and I am proud to do the same for my employees.

What advice would you give to someone early in their career and considering Fisher?

As someone without a degree or background in Finance, I can confidently say that this should not discourage you from applying. Along with Fisher-provided support, a good attitude, a love for learning and problem solving, and a great work ethic will serve you well. Like me, you may unearth an unexpected passion for investing and counseling clients, and it just may lead to a life-long career.
