You don't have to wear flowers in your hair, but after your first visit, you most assuredly will leave your heart in the Bay. This multicultural metropolitan hub in Northern California consists of nine counties-Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma-which make up five sub-regions referred to as San Francisco, North Bay, East Bay, South Bay, and the Peninsula. Each has its own unique history and flavor, and all are worth exploring. The Bay Area is well-known for its diverse population and affection for arts, music, and theater.

Getting Around Town
Though various freeways run throughout the Bay, traffic is constant. Luckily, the area is host to ample public transportation, including a light rail system (BART) and a commuter train (Caltrain).

Muir Woods, Golden Gate Park, Mission Dolores Park, Angel Island State Park, Twin Peaks, the Brothers Islands, Big Sur, Mt. Diablo, Presidio, Sigmund Stern Recreational Grove, Crystal Springs Park, Point Pinos Lighthouse, Land's End.

Schools
According to Niche, which aggregates data sets from the U.S. Department of Education, out of the top 100 school districts in California in 2017, 24 of them (including the top three) are located in the Bay Area. The area also houses dozens of renowned public and private universities.
Getting Out of Town
Three international airports and proximity to some of the most scenic areas in Northern California make the Bay a convenient location for those interested in travel.
